4 Days 3 Nights in Cebu - The Best Lechon Battle: Zubuchon vs Gerry's Grill
My favourite food in the Philippines would be LECHON! They had one of the best pork. I went to Cebu sometime in August 2019, and I was looking forward to eating all the Lechon that I could try. Zubuchon and Gerry's were my top 2 preferred places to have all things Lechon! I missed sisig while I wrote this article.
Zubuchon
We were famished once we touched down in Cebu, and we decided to head to Zubuchon for lunch. We had heard great reviews of Zubuchon and can't wait to dine at Zubuchon Express. We ordered Sisig, Boneless Zubuchon Pork Belly, Adobong Kangkong and garlic rice.
Sisig
Sisig is a dish made from parts of pig head and chicken liver, usually seasoned with calamansi, onions and chilli peppers. The sisig was slightly salty, but it was flavorful. It went really well with the garlic rice. You must order this dish.
Adobong Kangkong
Kangkong is a type of vegetable. If I was not wrong, the dish was cooked with garlic and lard. This dish was slightly salty and flavorful. The lard gave the extra crunch to the dish. A serving of the kangkong could be shared among 2 to 3 people. I would not order this again, as I would like to try their dishes.
Boneless Zubuchon Pork Belly
The Boneless Zubuchon Pork Belly had more fats than their usual version. I prefer having more meat than fats so I cut away the fats, but the pork belly was still as delicious. I loved it. This was the star of the lunch. I would like to try the typical pork belly with the bone next time.
Overall, I would say Zubuchon is worth a visit if you visit the Philippines.
Gerry's Grill
We went to Gerry's for dinner. We ordered Gerry's Special Ice Tea, Sizzling Sisig, Inihaw Na Liemp, Barbecue Pork, Crispy Pla Pla with Garlic and Garlic Rice. The Ice Tea was sweet but addictive. It was an excellent complimentary to most of the food items that we ordered.
Sizzling Sisig
The Sizzling Sisig was pretty good, but it's not as impressive as the one at Zubuchon. It's slightly less flavorful. However, it still went well with rice.
Inihaw Na Liemp
Inihaw Na Liemp meant grilled pork belly. The meat was excellent! As usual, the pork came with fats. For some reason, the pork here had so much fats! As usual I cut away the fats, and the meat still tasted great. It was so delicious that we had to order a second helping of this dish.
Barbecue Pork
1 serving of barbecue pork consisted of 2 sticks of meat. The dish was tasty but not as memorable as Inihaw Na Liemp. I would say save your calories and order 2 servings of the Inihaw Na Liemp. It's much more worth it.
Crispy Pla Pla with Garlic
In the Philippines, Pla Pla is a name for large tilapia fish. I don't like fried fish, so I am biased towards this dish. There was no wow factor. It tasted like any other fried fish with garlic. If you like fried fish, this may be a dish that you would enjoy.
The Battle of Zubuchon and Gerry’s
This is the overview of the dishes that I would highly recommend from the 2 restaurants. These dishes are totally worth the calories. I will definitely order them again the next time when I dined at these restaurants. If I have to choose a winner between both of them, I would choose Zubuchon because I would love to order the pork belly again. It’s yummy, fatty and the serving is generous enough for sharing. That dish alone was valued for money.
