3 Days 2 Nights in Phuket, Thailand - Sugar Marina Resort - Nautical Hotel
It is the first time that I had been to Phuket, Thailand. It is my first beach holiday as well. I am not a fan of the heat, but I do not mind giving beach holiday a try to see what's the hype.
On this trip, my friend and I stayed at Sugar Marina Resort - Nautical. The hotel is located in the Kata area in Phuket. It's about an hour drive from the airport. My goodness! That one hour drive was horrible! I am not too sure if it's the roads in Phuket or just the drivers' skills. I had motion sickness when I took the van during both transfers. I had no choice but to take a nap to stop myself from being nauseous.
Sugar Marina Resort - Nautical is located near to the Kata Beach and some eateries around the place. It's less than a 5 minutes walk from the hotel to the beach. Having said that, the room that we stayed in was not facing the beach. I doubt there is any room in the hotel that has that view too.
The twin room is spacious. It's value for money for its price. It cost less than 50USD per night, including taxes. Even the bathroom is spacious. The shower area is separated from the bathtub too. Sugar Marina Resort - Nautical also provides a straw mat in the room for the guests to bring out to use. It's a sweet gesture. They also provided beach towels too.
As much as I would like this to be the perfect hotel, it's not, because the room and bed were quite dirty. The floor is quite dusty. I suspect that sand was trapped in the bed as well. I could feel some grains on my legs as and when I tossed and turned. It's not the best feeling in the world because I knew that the staff did not change the bedsheets! The sofa in the room is pretty dirty too because it had worn out.
There are good and bad points of the room. I asked myself would I still go back there when I revisit Phuket. Yes, I would stay there if only I am there for a short stay. No, if I am staying for 3 nights or more and looking to explore other areas in Phuket as well.
Would I recommend Sugar Marina Resort - Nautical to you?
Yes, that's if you are a budget traveller. No, I would not recommend this to all clean freaks or has OCD to hygiene. If you are looking at comfort, this may not be the best option for you too. You have to weigh the pros and cons and decide if Sugar Marina Resort - Nautical is for you and your travel buddy.
