In & Out of Netherlands - Travelogue
I touched down in Singapore on Saturday morning. I was in the Netherlands for 3 days, 2 nights, but this trip took me 5 days. This is the first time that I felt totally drained from a trip. I think I am exhausted partly due to having a stomach virus before the trip as well. Thank goodness, I recovered in time! I lazed around for the whole of Saturday, and I was too tired to do anything.
The first day was spent travelling to Maastricht. This journey itself took at least 17 hours; 14 hours by plane and 3 hours by train. I was pretty exhausted by the time I reached Maastricht too. The town is small and quiet, which is a pleasant change from the Singapore landscape. It was freezing - 11 degree Celsius -, but I am enjoying the cold weather. Maastricht is not a place for tourism, but I like it as it's not crowded at all. You can almost travel around everywhere on foot, and I love it. I am sure I would have brought you on a walking tour too. The only downside is the food here is pretty costly, and it's hard to get breakfast early in the morning. Shops and most restaurants open at 9am and closed at 6pm, but I still managed to shop a little. I believe you would also appreciate this slow pace of life since you always said Singapore is too fast-paced.
The second day was dedicated to working and rushing to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a buzzing city. It's so different from Maastricht. I was in Amsterdam during April this year as well, so I just spent the evening walking around the area. There's pretty much nothing to do in Amsterdam. It's not my favourite city, mainly due to the smell of the weed. However, I believe you would like to revisit here again.
I had an early flight to catch on the third, which is also the last day of the trip. I only had time for a quick breakfast before rushing off to the airport. I think I spent more time travelling than being in the Netherlands itself. Although it's a short 3 days, 2 nights in the Netherlands, it was enough for me.
This video pretty much sums up how I felt about this trip.
It would be nice if you are there too. Won't it be nice to travel together again?
