FlexClip Review
What is FlexClip?
FlexClip is an online video maker. You can create a video using their templates and stock footages.
How to use FlexClip?
Let’s familiarise ourselves with the tools:
Media - All the media that you used in the editing process will be stored here.
Text - Add/Edit Text and templates
Overlay - Add a layer of animation on top of the slide.
Elements - Add Gifs, Subscribe buttons, shapes, etc.
Background - Add plain or animated background.
Music - You can add music or use royalty-free music.
Watermark - Add a watermark to the video
More - Edit the ratio of your video.
You can easily create a short video using the above tools. You can play with the individual tool before you start to create a video.
Step 1: Choose the Video Aspects Ratio under More.
There are different ratio available. So, if you are creating a video for Instagram, you can choose the 1:1 ratio. If you are creating an IG story or Tik Tok video, you can opt for the 9:16 ratio.
If you need to create the same video with a different aspect ratio, the software will automatically scale it. You simply need to edit the placement of your footages and text. You do not have to create from scratch.
Step 2: Start creating your Video
For the purpose of this review, I am using only the resources that are available on the software.
I decided to add an animated background for the introduction. The stock video is around 15 second round. You can use the "Trim" tool to cut out the exact duration of the stock video that you want.
Alternatively, if you want to use the same background for the full duration, but you want to add subtitles, you can use the "split video" function. It will split the footage at the timing that you want.
You can use the tools to adjust the speed, colour and add in filters too.
Next, go to "Text" and add in the text. Once you are done with the introduction, you can create a new clip.
For the new frame, we will talk about their stock videos. I am pretty impressed by their library. There are plenty of high-resolution stock footages for you to choose from. You can use them as B rolls.
You can add stock media directly via the frame section too.
I like that Flexclip has a database of elements. You can simply add a "Subscribe" or even a "Like" sticker on the frame. You don't need to especially create or search for a button. You could change the colour of these stickers too.
You can add a watermark too. You can use either text or image. You can adjust the properties, like size, opacity and position of the watermark.
Here are two sample videos, with a 16:9 and 1:1 ratio, that I created using FlexClip. The content is the same. I did not make any adjustments to the elements. I have placed them side by side so that is easier for you to compare.
This is great for content creators who need to create similar videos in different aspect ratios. You now can spend less time to create a series of similar videos using FlexClip.
Pros and Cons of Using FlexClip
Pros
1. Video and Music Stock Gallery
I am very impressed by the selection. There are plenty of stock images and soundtracks available on the platform. Even if you are not a video editor, you can use FlexClip to browse for suitable B Rolls and soundtracks for your project.
2. Screen Recording
You can do screen recording via the FlexClip too! You can record your screen and record your audio at the same time. This is especially useful for content producers who produce tutorials. The best part, screen recording is a free function!
3. Easy to use
It's honestly easy to use FlexClip. I like that it is an online video editing platform, with an extensive library. I could easily create the above 2 videos in a short amount of time. It is a seamless process. You no longer have to go through the hassle of downloading stock footages or soundtracks from different web sites.
Cons
1. Text Function
I don't like the interface of the text function. You can only edit the text on a new window. It would be more intuitive to edit on the preview panel.
2. Music/ Sound Track
You can only input 1 soundtrack for the entire video. You can't add any sound effect. You can't add sound effect at specific timing too.
Even if you wish to have 1 soundtrack, you can't adjust the gradual decrease or increase (Fade In and Fade out Function) of the volume and edit the video simultaneously. The steps are further broken down. You have to manually time the fade in and out, watch the preview and then make more changes. I find this process quite troublesome.
3. Overall control
While it is easy to use, I would prefer to have more control over the editing. It would be great if we can add elements and/or sound effects at a specific timing. Also, it would be nice if we could click on the timeline - to watch a shorter clip or the remaining of the footage. Right now, you preview the selected clip or the entire video, just to edit a few seconds. It would be great if more control can be given to users.
4. It’s only available on the web.
It would be great if an app version is available too. This would be a great add-on to users who need to create really short videos, like IG stories, on the go.
Who should use FlexClip?
I would recommend amateurs and beginners to start off with FlexClip. You can easily create a few videos on this platform. Once you are more comfortable with video production, you can learn other software. I would recommend this for content creators too. You can use them to create simple videos and take advantages of the database of stock footages and soundtracks.
Why should you use FlexClip?
You should use FlexClip if you are new to video editing. You can use this platform to learn the foundation of video editing. You can use FlexClip if you are doing simple edits too.
Personally, I think FlexClip is great for short and informative videos. You can basically use the stock footages and the layouts to create informative videos. Here's an example.
The above video is created using the Business Plan.
What is the price plan?
You can use FlexClip for free, but there are disadvantages to that.
You must include an introduction video of FlexClip before your actual video starts to play. It may not leave a good first impression. Some audience may leave, because they may think that they click on the wrong video.
Even if you are alright with the introduction video, the resolution is only 480p. 480p is considered bad for this age and time when everyone is used to 1080p.
Honestly, if you like to use FlexClip, and you know that you will use it frequently. I would then highly recommend that you get the Plus plan. You use 5 stock videos per project and can save the video in 1080p.
Don't forget that the subscription is for both the editing software and the entire library. You can simply use any of their resources for your projects.
Conclusion
FlexClip is a comprehensive software for video editing. It's a good starting point for beginners or those who want to create simple videos. If you are looking for a platform to start, why not give FlexClip a try?
